Next Level Endodontics: Anesthesia and Pain Control

Next Level Endodontics: Anesthesia and Pain Control is organized by Dentaltown, L.L.C.
Released: 06/01/2016
Expiration Date: 06/30/2025
Overview:
Profound pulpal anesthesia is essential for the delivery of endodontic treatment. However, local anesthetics are often only partially effective in treating dental pain originating from mandibular posterior teeth. Evidence indicates a significant increase in local anesthesia failure after inferior alveolar nerve block injection in pain patients versus normal controls. This presentation provides evidence-based practical tips for gaining effective anesthesia during endodontic treatment with a focus on mandibular posterior teeth.
Definitive endodontic treatment provides substantial relief from odontogenic pain. However, pharmacotherapy is often required post treatment. Use of analgesics as well as antibiotics will be discussed where current evidence is presented as to how best serve endodontic patients following treatment.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to achieve the following:
• Understand how pharmacology and neurophysiology can be used to achieve profound pulpal anesthesia.
• Know the steps in conventional dental anesthesia to be used when confronted with a mandibular molar exhibiting symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis.
• Understand how the speed of injection affects patient comfort and pulpal anesthesia success.
• Know the adjuncts that supplement conventional techniques in order to achieve profound, predictable, pulpal anesthesia.
• Understand antibiotic indications for the endodontic patient.
• Be able to provide patients with an adjustable plan that manages their pain.
Note: The fee to view this course is $36. This cost includes the fee to take the exam and claim your CE credits.
