Course Description:
Profound Anesthesia of the mandible can prove elusive.  Various techniques, including the inferior alveolar nerve block (NB), the Gow Gates mandibular NB, the incisive NB, and the Akinosi-Vazirani closed mouth NB are described.  The success of articaine HCl by mandibular infiltration is reviewed.

Course Objectives:
• Explain the reasons for low success rates for inferior alveolar nerve blocks
• List 5 alternative techniques for use when the IANB fails
• Describe the Gow-Gates mandibular block
• Discuss the success of articaine HCl by mandibular infiltration in adult patients
