Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:
- Review epidemiology and microbiology of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI)
- List common causative pathogens for various respiratory tract infections
- Evaluate the severity of diarrhea and evaluate the need for treatment
- List goals of an antimicrobial stewardship program and strategies for antimicrobial treatment - Discuss emerging infectious diseases including resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases, zoonoses, and diseases related to animal exposures
- Compare the benefits and side effect profiles of pharmacologic treatment options for ADHD
- Discuss mood stabilizing psychosocial and pharmacologic treatments of bipolar disorder as well as frequent co-morbid psychiatric disorders
- Describe strategies for identifying and treating substance use disorders
- Assess patients at risk for suicide and violence and intervene to make timely referrals to combat hopelessness
- Utilize suggested strategies to manage "the difficult patient"
- Describe the work-up, risk assessment and test selection of patients with suspected CAD
- Implement lifestyle changes as well as lipid and cholesterol guidelines for the prevention of CAD
- Implement treatment strategies reflective of recent guidelines and current evidence based medicine for CHF
- Explain current concepts in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension
- Describe current diagnostic and treatment approaches to arrhythmias and atrial fibrilation
- Describe the pathophysiology of male hypogonadism
- Discuss medical management of male sexual health
- Evaluate and manage sexually-transmitted infections in men
- Differentiate between benign prostate conditions and prostate cancers
- Discuss the biology and screening, and treatment options of prostate and testicular cancer
