Description:
Coordination among the interprofessional team is imperative to improving the lives and outcomes of patients after a stroke. Each specialty has important, unique functions to perform, requiring careful management by a unified team. We will follow Mr. Gibson throughout the course of his hospitalization as he is met by different members of the interprofessional team.
Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this course is to teach registered nurses, speech-language pathologists, and occupational and physical therapists in the acute care setting about their individual role along with the interprofessional approach to caring for patients after stroke.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
• Identify the different types of stroke and their treatments.
• Determine how nurses, speech language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists impact patient outcomes after stroke.
• Prioritize patient care between the interprofessional team for patients diagnosed with stroke.
