Overview:
The oral and maxillofacial surgeon is often challenged with the treatment of pediatric patients in their practice. This breakout session will focus on the nuances of the "Three Rs: Readiness, Recognition, and Reaction" that can occur under the anesthetic care of these special patients in contrast to adult patients.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Describe the pre-anesthetic issues that are unique to the pediatric patient and how to determine potential risk.
• Demonstrate the use of intraosseous devices to deliver emergency medications to the central circulation.
• Explain the lack of reserve in the pediatric population and how that affects their response to apnea.
