This course uses a case-based approach to illustrate precursor lesions of the female genital tract that have recently been elucidated and refined. It highlights recently recognized paradigms of early neoplasia and reviews the utility of immunohistochemical stains.
Objectives:
• To illustrate the concept of differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) and illustrate complicating elements in biopsy interpretation.
• To discuss the interpretation of cervical low grade squamous intraepithelial neoplasia (SIL) in immature metaplasia and review the value of P16 immunostaining.
• To illustrate the role of reserve cells in the development and pathology of endocervical microglandular change.
• To illustrate the challenges often encountered in interpretation of endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia in endometrial polyps.
• To review findings in a salpingectomy from a woman with a serous cystadenoma .
