This continuing education activity is designed to help build capacity in our systems of care to better serve transgender and nonbinary patients. This group of patients is among the most discriminated against in healthcare. According to recent studies, 70%-90% of transgender and nonbinary patients have felt some level of discrimination in the healthcare setting. Every time a healthcare professional interacts with a transgender or nonbinary person, they have an incredible opportunity to change this narrative by reducing health disparities and removing barriers to seeking care.
Educational Objectives
• Discuss what hormone-related and surgery transition options are available.
• Explain reproductive and preventive care to transgender/nonbinary patients.
• Incorporate individualized considerations into physical exams.
• Integrate pediatric-specific differences in care.
