Facial Cosmetic Surgery Post-Op Therapy Training Course is organized by Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy and will be held from Sep 25 - 26, 2023 at The Cathedral School, Manhattan, New York, United States of America.,Description:,The global cosmetic surgery market was $44.55 billion USD in 2020. The market is projected to grow from $46.02 billion USD in 2021 to $58.78 billion USD in 2028 at a CAGR of 3.6% during that period. Because this area of healthcare has grown so significantly over the past several years, far more clinicians are needed to treat this population. As recently as the late 2000s, post-operative recovery in cosmetic plastic surgery was a non-existent entity. Then in 2009 a New York City Physical Therapist specializing in post-op recovery from reconstructive plastic surgery brought her skills and expertise to cosmetic plastic surgery. Nicole Psomas developed a method and protocol for post-operative recovery, pioneering a niche in the industry. In 2019 she published the "The Psomas Method" in a 367-page comprehensive book titled After The Cut: How To Prepare For and Recover From Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. Nicole has now partnered with the Norton School to launch a course to teach preparation and recovery from cosmetic plastic surgery to clinicians throughout the United States.,,This course will train clinicians in preparation and recovery from cosmetic surgery procedures of the face including face-lifts, neck-lifts, cheek implants, otoplasty (ear surgery), hair transplants, lip augmentation, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow and forehead lifts, rhinoplasty (nose job). These procedures commonly result in post-operative complications such as edema, bruising and scarring. Sometimes healing does not go well and post-operative complications occur such as infection, poor wound healing and hematoma.,,This 2-day workshop will provide the academic foundation and practical application for the therapist to successfully implement basic techniques to prepare the patient for cosmetic surgery and reduce the edema, bruising and scarring that occurs after cosmetic surgery procedures of the face. Therapists will learn about: (1) the basic lymphatic system (2) evaluation and identification of a post-op complication (3) Manual Lymph drainage (MLD) (4) compression wraps and garments (5) ecchymosis (bruising) and edema management with modalities, supplements and diet (6) marketing and fee for services.,Course Objectives:,• Explain the basic anatomy and physiology of the face and neck lymphatic and venous systems and identify the relevant structures involved in lymphatic drainage.,• Identify cosmetic surgery procedures of the face and neck, their treatments and side effects, and their aesthetic and functional impact.,• List the various causes of edema in the face and neck post-cosmetic surgery and their appropriate treatments.,• Identify a post-operative complication or poor healing to refer back to the surgeon.,• Demonstrate basic proficiency in assessment and development of a basic treatment plan for a patient with face edema and ecchymosis (bruising) after cosmetic plastic surgery.,• Demonstrate proficiency in basic techniques to reduce edema of the head and neck in order to speed up healing post-cosmetic surgery and maximize aesthetic results.,,These include:, • Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) techniques for the face and neck, • Compression garment assessment and implementation for the face and neck, • Modalities such as ice, herbal supplements and positioning to reduce swelling and bruising.,,Attendees will include any of the following: Estheticians, massage therapists, CLTs, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, PAs, NPs, SLPs and MDs. The course content will include a basic review of lymphatic anatomy and physiology, as well as basic MLD techniques relevant to the face and neck. Emphasis of the course will be on the performance of basic techniques required for management of the patient with face and neck pre- and post-operative management and will be presented in a fashion that will accommodate the learning needs of all groups.
