Abbey Kaler is the passionate Nurse Practitioner Navigator for the Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC) Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The ABC program works to enhance the quantity and quality of life for patients living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Abbey has experience in patient education, care coordination, symptom management, advanced care planning, quality improvement projects, and patient-reported outcomes.
Abbey has worked at MD Anderson for the past 9 years as an inpatient Registered Nurse and has severed in her current role with the ABC program for the past 4 years. The highlight of Abbey’s career is to passionately speak about the mission of the ABC Program and the wonderful work that has been done to enhance the quality of life for patients living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Abbey holds a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Baptist College of Health Sciences in Memphis, TN and she attended Texas Women's University where she earned her Masters of Science Degree. She is a current doctoral student at the University of Texas Health Science Center Cizik School of Nursing.
Her research focuses on the importance of systematically incorporating the patient voice into clinical care through established support groups, advanced care planning, shared decision-making, and capturing patient-reported outcomes. Abbey lives in Houston with her husband and two daughters.
