The NHLBI 2020 Focused Updates to Asthma Management Guidelines: An Adult Virtual Patient Activity Course is organized by American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI).
Course opens: 10/25/2022
Course expires: 05/31/2024
Description:
This patient care simulation accompanies the course 2020 Focused Updates to the Asthma Management Guidelines: NAEPP Recommendations. In 2020, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute released Focused Updates to the Asthma Management Guidelines. The evidence-based updates were based on GRADE methodology and were written by the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Working Group. Members of this Group developed this online program, which provides an opportunity to practice applying the recommendations with virtual patients. In this module, you will meet an adult patient with asthma. Through visits with the patient, you will make decisions about the diagnosis and management based on the updated guidelines relating to asthma medications (including ICS, LABA, and LAMA), allergen mitigation, immunotherapy, and FeNO.
Learning Objectives:
• Adjust medications including ICS, LABA, and LAMA to maximize benefit while minimizing harm in adult asthma patients
• Implement allergen mitigation strategies and immunotherapy when appropriate to improve asthma control
• Obtain FeNO measurements when clinically appropriate in the asthmatic patient
