Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) 2024 Winter Meeting
Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) 2024 Winter Meeting is organized by Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) and will be held from Feb 20 - 24, 2024 at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States of America.
Educational Needs:
The SUFU 2024 winter meeting will include sessions focusing on basic and translational research as well as sessions that focus on the clinical care of patients. The meeting will be comprised of panel discussions, debates, breakouts, keynote addresses and research abstracts on conditions that affect the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor. The overall objective of the meeting will be to disseminate current knowledge in this field and stimulate advanced thinking to further our understanding of the pathophysiology, evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor disorders.
Conditions involving the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor can have a tremendous impact on the quality of life of patients and their families and can also result in a huge economic burden. The educational needs of the attendees are based upon the importance of having a global understanding of pelvic floor disorders in order to optimize the care of our patients with these disorders. The clinical science portion of the meeting will include topics such as new ideas in urinary catheter design, the role of urodynamics in the evaluation of male lower urinary tract symptoms, new developments in neuromodulation, health disparities in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS), neurogenic bladder case-based discussions, the future of URPS, the current female SUI guidelines, and the management of the end-stage bladder. There will also be debates on the management of uterine prolapse, diagnostic evaluation of male lower urinary tract symptoms (invasive versus noninvasive) and testing techniques for sacral neuromodulation. Two moderated video sessions will address various novel pelvic floor surgical approaches, and there will be a non-moderated video session for attendees to view videos throughout the meeting. Breakout sessions will address topics such as medical malpractice, the use of advanced practice providers (APPs) in URPS, social media, wellness/ ergonomics, as well as complex cases and complex urodynamics.
Attendees of the SUFU program should be familiar with these conditions and the latest thinking regarding these important clinical, practice-related and basic science topics. The meeting will be designed to encourage and foster interactions and collaboration between clinicians, investigators and basic scientists. Attendees will benefit from dialogue regarding these topics, which will facilitate the ability of clinicians to provide optimal patient care and basic scientists to better understand the scope of lower urinary tract conditions.
Educational Objectives:
At the conclusion of the SUFU 2024 Winter Meeting, attendees will be able to:
Clinical:
• Discuss emerging ideas for new urinary catheter designs.
• Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of various urodynamic techniques in the evaluation of male LUTS.
• Describe new developments in neuromodulation, including the current understanding of mechanism of action, new tibial nerve stimulators, and new CPT coding guidelines.
• Review the clinical parameters which predict failure of conservative therapy for the end-stage bladder.
• Explain steps that can be taken to create educational resources for patients who do not speak English and those with low health literacy.
• Summarize the management principles for the care of neurogenic bladder dysfunction.
• Identify issues that will impact the future of URPS.
• Identify opportunities outside of clinical practice that are available for FPMRS/URPS clinicians.
• Explain the advantages and disadvantages of hysteropexy vs hysterectomy for uterine prolapse.
• Describe the advantages and disadvantages of PNE vs staged testing for sacral neuromodulation.
• Discuss the strengths and limitations of the current AUA/SUFU Female SUI guidelines in clinical practice.
• Identify best practices for wellness and ergonomics in URPS practice.
• Summarize best practices related to medical malpractice prevention and management.
• Evaluate and interpret complex urodynamic studies.
• Describe how to optimize the use of advanced practice providers in the URPS practice.
• Review the benefits and potential risks of social media as it relates to URPS practice.
Basic Science:
• Describe the neural control of the bladder, and specifically contributions of the mucosa and lamina propria
• Describe the use of optogenetics to study bladder function.
• Describe the most recent advances in urothelial purinergic and cholinergic signaling
