Course Description:
This evidence-based, experiential, active, and participatory 1.5-hour webinar will focus on the management of the patient with osteoporosis with a focus on bracing with the Spinomed Spinal Orthosis for Osteoporosis as part of the comprehensive 12-point program of The Meeks Method. This is the only spinal orthosis for osteoporosis that has been supported by a peer-reviewed, published study of its use. The presentation will include an experience of functional movement from and for the bones, a discussion of the importance of site-specific exercise including joint-reaction, ground-reaction, and bone-reaction forces, an introduction to bracing with the Spinomed as well as information on the epidemiology and pathology of osteoporosis and fracture including management with vertebral or kyphoplasty.
This online certificate course for Physical Therapists & Occupational Therapists is a learning module taught via on-demand streaming video. At the end of the course, there will be a quiz. Upon successful completion of the quiz, a certificate confirming completion of the Bracing with the Spinomed Orthosis course will be issued.
Course Objectives:
• Understand the principles behind The Meeks Method for the management of the patient with osteoporosis.
• Articulate the guidelines for the management of the patient with an acute spinal compression fracture.
• Demonstrate Perch Posture, Hip Hinge, and Safe Sit-To-Stand.
• Know the difference between Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty and be familiar with the results of these procedures.
• Be able to discuss indications for bracing with the Spinomed III Spinal Orthosis, to understand why this brace is fundamentally different than other types of bracing and how its use is part of a comprehensive program of osteoporosis management.
