Description:
Patients with chronic, progressive pulmonary diseases are a challenging patient population, as they often present with unrelieved symptoms that affect their quality of life. Palliative care is no longer considered end-of-life care. Comprehensive care is now offered to patients with chronic, progressive illnesses early in the disease process, thereby offering a better quality of life. An interdisciplinary approach to palliative care is essential to the successful treatment of these chronic pulmonary patients.
Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this course is to educate clinicians on the medical, psychosocial, and interpersonal needs of the pulmonary palliative care patient.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
• Discuss four interventions that help improve the quality of life for the pulmonary palliative care patient.
• Identify the key members of the interprofessional palliative care team and define their roles.
• Explain the significance of early palliative care implementation.
