Pinhole Surgical Technique

Pinhole Surgical Technique is organized by Dentaltown, L.L.C.
Released: 05/01/2018
Expiration Date: 06/30/2025
Overview:
This course on the Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) first explores the etiology and prevalence of gingival recession (GR). Etiological factors of GR include anatomical abnormalities, periodontal diseases, iatrogenic issues, over-zealous brushing and flossing, occlusal interferences and controversies. Systemic of diseases and disorders are also discussed. Prevalence of GR is cited as affecting 50% of adults between the age of 18-65, and 80% of people over 65.
There is an in-depth discussion as to the how predictable and effective PST is with the three classification of GR, as per Miller. How predictable a procedure means how much of the time this procedure achieves 100% coverage. How effective a procedure is means how much of the exposed root is coverage. PST achieves !00% coverage 82.4% of the time, while effectively coverage about 80% to 90% of the exposed root. Efficacy of PST is followed by information concerning the long-term results of PST as well as how this is achieved through the PST protocol. Long-term results extending from 9-11 years are shared with the audience. As to the future, the University at Buffalo, SUNY, will be publishing its current split-mouth, double-blind, controlled clinical trial comparing the subepithelial connective tissue graft with PST, involving over 40 patients by the end of 2018. Also in 2018, a follow-up study of the original PST patients in the first study will show long-term cases extending up to 11 years.
