Description:
The purpose of this program is to provider current, evidence based practices regarding the care of neonates during the perioperative phase. Topics will include the phases of perioperative care, priority perioperative assessments, and postoperative completions and corresponding nursing interventions.
Program Objectives:
• Differentiate the phases of perioperative care
• Define the types and categories of surgeries
• Identify priority preoperative assessments and describe the preoperative preparation
• Identify surgical risk factors
• Discuss the standard conditions of the surgical neonate including gastroschisis, omphalocele, myelomeningocele, and placement of a gastrostomy tube
• Discuss priority assessments for the postoperative period
• Identify common postoperative complications and corresponding nursing interventions
