Overview:
Many pregnant women are not treated for severe hypertension on Labor & Delivery in a timely manner. Recent data has led to new recommendations for the blood pressure (BP) threshold that should prompt treatment for pregnant women with chronic hypertension. During this activity, the definition and importance of timely and appropriate treatment of maternal hypertension will be reviewed.
ACCME Objectives:
• Describe the timely treatment of severe maternal hypertension.
• Summarize the new target blood pressure (BP) guidelines for the treatment of maternal chronic hypertension.
• Discuss the role of low-dose aspirin in preeclampsia risk reduction.
• Explain the recommended technique for BP measurement.
