Introduction to Anesthesia Simulation in Your own Office: Cost-effective Team Learning
Introduction to Anesthesia Simulation in Your own Office: Cost-effective Team Learning is organized by American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).
Original Release Date: September 20, 2019
Review Date: May 14, 2022
Expiration Date: May 14, 2025
Description:
The use of high-fidelity simulation such as the SimMan has greatly improved the ways anesthesia teams can practice together to deal with infrequent emergency situations. Although some OMSs have attended courses, it is difficult to bring their entire anesthesia team to programs. Some of the barriers are the costs of the SimMan, the time away to attend a SimMan course and not practicing these cases in the office using their own office equipment. An introduction to running simulated anesthesia emergencies in the office setting will be presented. Cost-effective simulators will be demonstrated and participants can try some units to see which types would fit their needs. Participants will be given specific teaching scenarios that they can take back to their office to integrate these cases with their office anesthesia team in their own office environment.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Identify materials needed to provide in-office anesthesia emergency simulations.
• Complete mock drills in the office.
• Assess the team's response to emergencies.
