Description:
This webinar will concentrate on methods to recognize strengths and weaknesses in written language samples by accompanying written transcription analyses. The speaker will explain how to assess the written language skills of children and adolescents with developmental language dysfunctions at the word, sentence, and discourse levels. The speaker will also emphasize how to perceive and recognize the cognitive, linguistic, and motor skills that require development for a student to engage successfully in the writing process. This is an associate webinar to the “Foundations of Writing for School-Age Children and Adolescents” webinar.
Course Objectives:
You will be able to:
• explain three different ways to obtain a written language sample from children and adolescents
• distinguish the writing process from the final written product, and describe how to observe cognitive, linguistic, and motor skills children and adolescents need as they write
• convey a written language sample analysis for baseline data purposes that describes written language output at the word, sentence, and discourse levels
