Initial Release Date: September 15, 2021
Planned Expiration Date: September 15, 2024
Description:
Statistics can be overwhelming. However, pharmacists have to leverage statistical methods on a routine basis when evaluating clinical studies and providing patient care. This course provides a crash course review in statistics to help you evaluate the literature and communicate its implications to providers and patients.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
• Describe the differences between descriptive and inferential statistics
• Identify different types of data (nominal, ordinal, continuous [ratio and interval]) to determine an appropriate type of statistical test (parametric vs nonparametric)
• Describe strengths and limitations of different types of measures on central tendency (mean, median, and mode) and data spread (standard deviation, standard error of the mean, range, and interquartile range)
• Describe hypothesis testing, and decision errors and state the meaning of and distinguish between p-values and confidence intervals
• Describe the similarities and differences between statistical tests, and state how to apply and interpret them appropriately.
